DIY Knitting Kit Coimbra Shawl

Coimbra Shawl has the homonymous Portuguese city as inspiration. Coimbra is a beautiful riverfront town and the country’s former capital. It is known for many reasons, we would like to highlight its enchanting gardens and beautiful university.

The Coimbra shawl is triangular, worked sideways from the right tip to the left edge. It was designed to use the amazingly soft yarn Somen, by Hoooked, a cotton and linen blend, perfect for autumn days.

This kit contains:

200gr of Somen Yarn by Hoooked (colour Ambra)

4,5mm / US 4 Knitting Needles

Written Patterns in English, Dutch, German, Spanish and French

You will also need:

Clip-on stitch markers

Tapestry needle

Blocking wires and pins (optional)

Gauge:

17 sts and 24 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm / 4” x 4” (motif, relaxed after blocking).

If your swatch is smaller or bigger, we recommend using another size needle to avoid deviations.

Measurements:

100 cm x 70 cm (40” x 27,5”)

Notes: For the sample shown in the photos, we used 4 balls (200 grams, about 330 meters). It’s about 100 cm (40”) long and 70 cm (27,5”) wide.  Each complete motif will add about 25 cm (10”) to the length and 17,5 cm (7”) to the width of the shawl. To knit the shawl with one additional motif you will need about 600 m/656 yds (7 balls/350g) and with two additional motifs, you will need about 860 m/940 yds (10,5 balls/525g).
