Pinktober Knit and Crochet for Breast Cancer Awareness

Pinktober Knit and Crochet for Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Also known as “Pinktober”, during this month various organizations and individuals worldwide engage in activities, events, and fundraising campaigns to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote early detection, prevention, and treatment.

Help educate those concerned about the disease, like sharing information about early identification, signs and symptoms associated.  This is important as most women with breast cancer are diagnosed at an already advanced stage.

Get involved through fundraising or spreading awareness and support.

Some time ago, we talked about the benefits of DIY projects such as crochet, knitting and macramé in breast cancer patients but also every other person. Besides allowing yourself to be creative, spending your time doing this type of activity has a calming and relaxing effect on you as it reduces stress and anxiety.

Crafting and in particular crochet, knitting and macramé have a calming and relaxing effect, reducing anxiety and stress. The action of focusing on the repetitive motions of individual stitches allows your mind to relax and escape from any thoughts that could cause you anxiety. The result might be a beautiful creation that you can use as a decoration or accessory or even functional items that can be used in day-to-day life.

Hoooked supports Pink October and encourages you to do and wear a pink headband to raise awareness about this theme. You find below two free patterns (beginner-friendly) for the headband - one for knitters and another for crocheters! Choose your technique and favourite Hoooked’s pink yarn and start creating!

-Enjoy

Below you can find the instructions for a headband, made in crochet with our soft Eucalyps and in knitting with our eco-friendly Atlantica SeaCell in pink tones. We mention the colours we used, but you can choose others. Make a headband for yourself or gift it to a loved one.
