Hugging Pink Ribbon Keychain: Free Crochet Pattern

Hugging Pink Ribbon Keychain: Free Crochet Pattern

October is a special month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, a time to show support, spread awareness, and remind the people around us that no one has to face this journey alone.

To celebrate Pink October, we designed a quick and meaningful project: the Hugging Pink Ribbon Keychain. This piece features a pink ribbon holding a sweet crochet heart in a loving embrace. It's a simple and thoughtful project that you can make for yourself, give to someone special, or share with friends and family as a small gesture of love and support.

Attach it to your keys, your bag, or your backpack, and carry a little reminder of hope wherever you go.

This project is a lovely way to use your crochet skills to spread a message of awareness and solidarity. It's also a great little handmade gift for Pink October events, awareness campaigns, or simply to give to someone who could use a little extra love.

The pattern is small and doesn't require much yarn, making it a fun and simple project.

Materials:

Abbreviations

This pattern uses the following crochet abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • dc: double crochet
  • htr: half treble crochet
  • tr: treble crochet
  • inc: increase, work the indicated stitch more than once into the same stitch

Note: Crochet terminology can vary between UK and US patterns. The abbreviations above follow UK terminology, so a UK half treble crochet (htr) is a US half double crochet (hdc), and a UK treble crochet (tr) is a US double crochet (dc).

The Pattern:

Pink Ribbon

Yarn: Hoooked Eco Barbante in Punch

Hook: 4 mm

The ribbon is crocheted in rows and then shaped into the familiar awareness ribbon form.

Ch 20.

Row 1: Starting in the second chain from the hook, work: 7 htr, 2 htr inc, 2 htr inc, 3 htr inc, 2 htr inc, 2 htr inc, 6 htr (24).

Fasten off, leaving a tail if you need it for shaping or sewing. Gently shape the crocheted strip into a ribbon, adjusting the loop until you're happy with its form.

Heart

Yarn: Hoooked Eco Barbante in Blossom

Hook: 3.5 mm

The little heart sits in the centre of the ribbon, adding a lovely finishing touch.

Into a magic ring, work:

Ch 2, 3 tr, 4 htr, 1 tr, 4 htr, 3 tr, ch 2, 1 sl st into the ring.

Fasten off, pull the magic ring tightly closed, and carefully weave in the ends. Gently shape the heart with your fingers so that both sides look even.

Arms

Yarn: Hoooked Eco Barbante in Lotus

Hook: 4 mm

These tiny arms are what give the ribbon its little hug!

Ch 4.

Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 3 dc.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for attaching the arms to the ribbon and heart.

Assembly:

  • Shape the ribbon: Arrange the crocheted strip into a pink ribbon shape, crossing the ends and adjusting the top loop until you are happy with the size.
  • Attach the arms: Sew one end of each arm to the outer sides of the ribbon so they reach towards the middle.
  • Add the heart: Secure the crochet heart in the centre of the ribbon.
  • Use the arm yarn tails to wrap the tiny hands around the heart, creating a snug hug.
  • Attach the keychain: Securely fasten the metal keychain ring to the top loop of the ribbon.
  • Finish: Weave in all remaining yarn ends securely.
